Yarrow herb is a native plant to many areas of Asia, North America, and Europe. It is known by many other names including bloodwort, milfoil (or knights milfoil), and old man’s pepper. It is used in many herbal remedies and is believed to have wide ranging health benefits.
Uses of Yarrow:
To lower a fever in the early stages of a cold or flu drink a cup of hot yarrow tea every two or three hours. Make the tea by placing 1 teaspoon of dried yarrow leaf or 1/2 teaspoon leaf powder in a cup and add boiling water. Let it steep 10 to 15 minutes and strain.
Yarrow has been used to lower blood pressure because it dialates the periphial blood vessels. It will improve circulation and tone varicose veins.
Drink yarrow tea to relieve the pain and the frequent need to urinate during a bladder infection.
Yarrow herb tea can be used to cleanse wounds and speed healing. It can also be used on skin rashes like eczema, psoriasis, and poison ivy. Balms that contain yarrow are also good for these skin conditions.
Yarrow tea will relieve stomach cramps caused by indigestion.
Yarrow can be taken to normalize the menstruation cycle.
Externally, the yarrow herb has been used, and is reputedly very effective, for helping to heal bruises, burns, cuts, swelling, ulcers and wounds on the skin or body surface. This is usually carried out using poultices made from the whole plant, yarrow leaves, or powder produced by grinding up dried yarrow tops.
Yarrow Side Effects - There are no known side effects to using the yarrow herb, but, as always, exercise caution when taking supplements. If unsure, consult with a medical practitioner for advice before use, particularly if pregnant or already taking medications for health issues.
